Belstaff Trial Master ‘Legend’ black jacket
Where else to start but with the jacket that has had everyone talking? The web is awash with people buzzing about the biker jacket that Smith wears as he wanders through the film and we can see why. Made by top brand Belstaff, the jacket is made from waxed cotton and has a corduroy lined collar. Details include the classic four front pockets, two way zip and belted waist. Though unmistakably Belstaff, the credentials were played down in the movie to be more inconspicuous and likewise the length of the jacket, though three quarter length was made intentionally longer for the 6-foot-2-inches tall Smith. With a weathered, distressed look that is on-trend without seeming fussy, the jacket is also practical with underarm vents and reinforced elbows and sleeves – perfect for any monster mash-ups. Belstaff’s senior creative director, Manuele Malenotti has also spoken of his excitement at the onscreen pairing of A-list star Smith and the famous brand enthusing: “He [Will Smith] is a perfect match with Belstaff. He wears the jacket as people should wear it.”

Belstaff secured a sweet gig when they signed up for I Am Legend. Not content to flaunt their jacket and bag on style icon Smith, they even kitted the action star out in a pair of their trousers – the Belstaff longway triple canvas in deep brown. Sadly these trews seem to be in hiding, with little trace of them at online retailers but we’ve taken a broader scope here at Boxwish and spotted these fantastic lookalikes by trendy label Joe Browns that embody all the casual cool of Robert’s. These cargo trousers are made from 100-per-cent cotton, come in a range of sizes and colour shades of either khaki or charcoal. And to complete the look, team the trousers with this lightweight granddad top. It has the matching low neck and button fastening of Robert’s and is a low-key fashion essential that can be dressed up or down occasion permitting.

With no opportunity to pop down the shops and buy some shoes, Robert Neville has wisely invested in a long-lasting, tough pair of boots. These ones by Palladium are street-tested to ensure a durability and toughness essential for Robert’s plight and come complete with a removable insole to improve comfort. Ideal for urban wear or more rural pursuits, these Palladium shoes are made from canvas and are available in five colours – though for that authentic I Am Legend look opt for “otan” (or khaki in less fancy fashion speak).

Wearing two watches might seem like an extravagance, but being a science whizz there’s method in Robert’s madness. He dons a Swiss Army SporTech 4000 Chrono 24077 to help him with the simple task of telling the time, and partners this with the Hamilton Khaki Twilight for a darker purpose. Aware that the contaminated baddies appear after sundown, he makes good use of the watch’s sunset alarm that alerts him to danger. On a less gruesome note, the watch is water resistant to a depth of 200 metres and has a sapphire crystal and display back. For the more ordinary tasks, he refers to his Swiss Army watch, which comes with a whole host of goodies that come in handy whether measuring temperature, pressure or competing in sport. It is made from scratch-resistant mineral and has a low battery indicator so that you’re never caught out. So take your pick from Dr Robert’s top time pieces.

Another delectable goodie and yes, you’ve guessed it; it’s from those Belstaff folks again. This canvas shoulder bag shows why Belstaff are the cream of the crop, with attention to detail that both bolsters its robustness and keeps it looking good. Made in the large colonial style, the bag has many compartments both on the front and inside to keep belongings organised and has leather flaps and belt fasteners to keep them secure. With its leather reinforced corners, it can stand some wear-and-tear and as with all Belstaff products, it sports the distinctive brand in an internal patch and a metal logo. A deserted city might seem like the ideal place to go for a jog, but not Robert’s New York. Venturing outside the safety of his home presents unknown dangers and so the canny scientist has decided to hoard some choice gym equipment in his apartment. One such delectable gadget is his treadmill courtesy of fitness equipment specialists Nautilus. Robert owns two of these, providing him with a sweaty workout while simultaneously giving his dog Sam a much-needed walk. We’ve spotted that he uses the T916 model, but as they are pretty hard to come by in the UK, we’ve opted for the very similar T718 model. Nautilus has won awards for their high quality professional treadmills and proudly boasts that their products are “designed by runners for runners”. This model has a high resolution LCD display and a range of programs allowing workouts to be governed by distance, time, heart-rate training and intervals. Perfect for a little self-improvement, whatever pace you want to go at. |
