Senior citizen who built hishome for his family as a teenager... only for it to be ransacked TWICE bycontractors after Wells Fargo foreclosed on the wrong address

·As a teenager AlvinTjosaas, now 77, helped his parents built a home in Twentynine Palms,California

·He has spent more than50 years vacationing at the home with his family

·Wells Fargo mistakenly ransackedthe home twice this summer, breaking down doors, smashing windows and walls andtaking Tjosaas' possessions

·The bank were meant to beforeclosing on a property 10 acres away

Foreclosed:Wells Fargo wrongly sent contractors to take possessions from this house in theCalifornia desert

When Alvin Tjosaas was a teenager, hehelped his father build a vacation home in the California desert.More than 50 years later, he has been 'leftto sit among the ruins of the house' after it was mistakenly ransacked by abank twice.Wells Fargo had a warrant to foreclose onthe property - but they went to the wrong home.

Trash: Workers left the house in a poorstate and dumped family possessions in the yard

Back in 1961, Tjosaas built the two-bedroomhouse in Twentynine Palms when he was just 14-years-old.'I put my whole life into this place, building it for my mom and dad,' Tjosaas told ABC.Now 77, the retired mason has spent much ofhis life in the home, and enjoyed vacations there with his wife Pat and theirsix children.

Fury: Alvin Tjosaas, 77, helped his fatherbuild the vacation home when he was a teenager

But twice this summer subcontractors havevisited the house in an attempt to foreclose, claiming the owner had defaultedon his mortgage with banking giant Wells Fargo. The Tjosaases have never had a mortgage onthe home they have owned for over half a century. The subcontractors barged into the propertywith a foreclosure notice in hand. The notice had the address for the Tjosaashome but had the name Stephen A. Janoski on it, reported ABC.

After the break-in, police told Mr Tjosaas:'Good news, we know who took it - Wells Fargo. Bad news, your stuff's allgone.'In June, the aggressive contractorsapparently took three lawnmowers, three golf carts and family mementosincluding Mr Tjosaas' father's uniform from World War I.As well as stealing all of the family'svaluables, the bank broke down doors, smashed windows and tore down walls.Patricia Tjosaas said that when she and herhusband managed to reach the house, they called police who took the workers tothe home they were supposed to be at, 10 acres away.'Alvin was left to sit among the ruins ofthe house,' she told ABC News. But the contractors returned over Labor Dayand dumped many of the family's possessions in the front yard.

It also appeared that people had beenliving there after the workers broke in - someone had left beer and bongs lyingaround the house.Mr Tjosaas spoke of his devastation atseeing his beloved home torn apart because of a stupid error.'I know every inch, every rock,' he toldCBS Los Angeles. 'My mom mixed all the cement by hand.'He also reminisced about trips to the areaas an adult: 'My little kids [would] come out here and their dresses were thesame colour as the wildflowers.'The family tried to contact Wells Fargo, but apparently received no reply from the bank until their story startedattracting media coverage.

A spokesman for the bank said: 'We aredeeply sorry for the very personal losses the Tjosaas family suffered as aresult of their home being mistakenly secured and entered by an outside partyhired to address a different nearby property.'We are moving quickly to reach out to theTjosaas family to resolve this unfortunate situation in an attempt to rightthis wrong.'Wells Fargo has apparently offered thecouple more than $250,000 in compensation for their loss.Mr and Mrs Tjosaas and their lawyer metwith the bank on Thursday but did not decide whether to accept Wells Fargo'soffer. Mr Tjosaas told CBS that he had held on toone consolation throughout the foreclosure ordeal - the love of his wife.'I'm just glad I have my sweetheart,' hesaid. 'We've been together a long time.'

I think that the contents of this housewere worth every penny of one million dollars. How do you replace the trinketsand mementos gathered over a lifetime?- Jake, Pittsburgh, 9/9/2012 21:17

I hope that the family takes Wells Fargo tothe cleaners for an obscene amount of money to teach them a lesson.- lupislune, suffolk, United Kingdom,9/9/2012 22:53

My heart goes out to thefamily and i hope they get the compensation they deserve.... $250,000 is notenough. My question is: "why were the subcontractors destroying thehouse?" You would think they would want to keep it in tact so they can tryto sell it. This displays selfishness and cruelty.... very very sick.- Hope, United States, 9/9/2012 22:58

I see lawsuits against all kinds of peoplehere, & a real biggy against Wells Fargo Bank. $250,000 is a drop in thebucket. His lawyer probably costs more than that.- maggie Elaina, jasper Ga, 9/9/2012 22:56

This has happened many, many times here inthe states. It's not just Wells Fargo, other major banks have also done this. They break in, take everything in the house - smash it up - and haul it to alandfill immediately. Then, if caught, offer some nominal compensation. 1million$ or less is chump change to something the size of Wells Fargo. Theyspend more than that on paper clips. The ONLY thing that stands a chance ofstopping these clowns from breaking into houses at random and stealing thecontents is a REALLY juicy damage suit. A half decent lawyershould be able to start a class action lawsuit well into 7 or 8 figures. That'swhat it will take. Something to get the stockholder's attention. When theirdividend goes down by 25% or so - they will scream for theCEO's scalp. The management will be replaced, and an object lesson willhave been delivered to the whole industry.- H Waggoner, Washington D.C., UnitedStates, 9/9/2012 22:18
